Watering the Garden
WHAT WAS FAVORABLE WITH EACH OF THE 7 CHURCHES?
Scripture:
Ephesus: I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
Smyrna: I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
Pergamos: I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith,
Thyatira: I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. (Revelation 2)
Sardis: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Philadelphia: I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Laodiceans: I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (Revelation 3)
We find described above what was of good report concerning the 7 churches listed in the book of Revelation. Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos and Philadelphia had the best reports. Sardis and Laodicea had no good thing said of them and Thyatira did not measure up. The highest compliments appear to go to the church of Philadelphia.
WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED?
Only 4 of the 7 churches described in the book of Revelation had a good report and Philadelphia had the best.
Our Father appreciates the fact that you are trying. May God’s blessing be upon this
study of His word, Amen.
